| ’Modern Madonna′ 18″ x 24″ - oils Finished sides, back stapled canvas, needs no frame, ready to hang There isn't a quote to go with this work, it was inspired by a friend of mine and this is what happened. Here is a sort of explanation to the painting itself. I needed to paint a woman in celebration and this is what came out…a loving mother figure for every human. I am an orphan, I know what it means to have no Mother, and I felt this painting could represent that universal love that Human beings can if willing, share with themselves, their families and the world at large. I study the world religions, I belong to none, but I love theology and history with a passion. This the way of the Universal Madonna, no religions, just pure woman-hood, pure love, a vessel for life…dark skinned, light skinned…you can’t tell…it don’t matter, we are the blood and bones of humanity. The ultimate creators. The white is too white in these pictures, it’s actually a folded scarf and then the bejeweled blue cloak begins. She has beaded with a spot of carefully placed large glitter, red woven threads in her hair. The halo of light is also covered in radiating dots of white, white blue, white yellow, and then white again bubbles, that get smaller as they go further outward with dashes of reflective white lines in between; you can’t see any of that in any picture I’ve taken so far. But in a dark room, she glows and twinkles. I like my art to still speak, even when there is low or no light…it’s just my thing…if I could find a way that pleased me I would add scents to my works as well so you could capture all the human senses. Movement, texture, tone/color, sound, and smell. You know? And I just plain have a hard time with picture taking, it’s not my strong suit. :) Thanks for being here today and I hope you enjoy the work. Heather |
