| ‘Empty your pockets’ Functional up-cycled/recycled art. Vintage train case, re-made into fine art. Mixed media, found objects and resin Not yet on my web site, but will be there soon. If interested in buying this work, please email me for info. Here is the quote that goes with this work: “All things must change to something new, something strange.” ~ Henry W. Longfellow I found this fun little train case in a Goodwill bins store a few years back. BTW…I am also a junk- aholic, so I love to collect and pick up little tiny things. I thought it would be fun to collect things and when I needed to “put” these things somewhere (other than my pockets or the washing machine) I would empty my pockets into this case, when it was full…I would assemble it to tell the story of compulsive collecting…Er, I mean the beauty of found art objects and up-cycling. So, this case took almost two years to collect and then put it all together. I love the fact that it has a little of everything I find interesting in or on it. After I painted the outside (Oils), I re-lined the inside with new padding and new fabric, and a little wide ribbon. Then I took a epoxy glue and glued down everything on the top, after that was dry I covered the whole thing in resin. So it will last forever…and ever. Finally I re-did the handle with wire, beads, and ribbon. It does close all the way and latch…but I wouldn't keep it like that. I thought it would make a great key box, a remote control holder, a loose change keeper, or maybe to hold all those dog leashes and doodie bags (the clean ones, pre-doodie). I just got it back from it’s gallery shows and tours, it’s been a traveling artwork for almost two years now. I thought this work would be perfect for that show…being that it’s a re- made train/travel case. Thanks for being here, Heather |
