"Blown Away" I painted this right after Katrina, I was born and raised in the Gulf states, and the pain I felt for the people of my homeland was almost unbearable, so I created a work to represent the fact that life is short, and that if you need help, depend on the humans next to you, the Government may not ride the white horse anymore. Loving one another today is all we ever have. Rich deep maroon tones, with golds, silver and bronze metal powders ground up very fine and added to the paint. Words and text written on gold leaf, worked into the background. The grey in the photo's is really a shimmery see thru silver. Powerful work, about loss, and recovery and the human spirit. I honor my Southern Roots with this work, and the power of faith that the region has always had is inspiring to me everyday, I feel my roots, deep in Southern Soil...and my heart still hurts for those lost and those left behind. |

| The Dream State Series started out of my need to understand my inner voice. I can hear it, beating a steady back-beat in my mind. I can feel it in my feet when I am dancing, creating, and breathing fire. So, when I closed my eyes and grabbed a handful of plaster, this is what happened. I used found objects, feathers, costume jewelry, vintage lace, and oils. This painting placed in the top five in an International Mixed Media Event, in 2005. Waking the Soul Power is the face that I have given to my inner voice. I guess my inner voice is a dark skinned, tribal warrior woman. That works for me.
