| Oils, plaster, vintage drink coasters from the 50’s and then covered in resin Here is the quote for this work: “The truth is that there is only one terminal dignity-love. And the story of a love is not important-what is important is that one is capable of love.” ~Helen Hayes (1900 - ?) *** I found these perfect vintage drink coasters at a tag sale a few years back, they were inside a pretty little box, and looked as if they had never been used. I had to have them of course, at the time I had no idea what I was going to do with them, I just loved the images and how clear and clean they were for their age. I brought them home, put them on the shelf of "treasures" that I have in the studio and did not think of them again for about a year. I re-found them while looking for something else, and instantly knew what they were. They are a story of love, lies, honor, and war. So, I arranged them in a story board form on top of a canvas. When I had the placement right, I then plastered the canvas and set them into it while it was still wet. Let it dry. I then started laying in the layers of color for the background, to show the texture of the plaster and to add drama. When that was done, I added the clear as water resin to the entire work, sides and all. (Framing maybe difficult because of the resin on the sides, but I made it thinking it would not need a frame at all) The colors just pop, the underlaying texture of the plaster gives it an aged feeling and the coaters, well they are no longer just a decorative item. They are a history, they are a story...a story of love. I hope you enjoy. These pictures were really hard to capture because of the color and the resin. This is a glowing and stunning work, a must see in person. Thank you for being here, Heather |
